Wayanad district in Kerala has reported a rise in Shigellosis cases, reaching a total of 16 confirmed incidents. District Medical Officer K.T. Rekha stated that the health department has intensified surveillance and preventive measures throughout the district to control the outbreak efficiently.
Dr. Rekha assured that the health condition of all 16 affected children remains stable, and medical teams are closely monitoring their progress. She emphasized that early detection and treatment are crucial in containing the spread of the disease.
Shigellosis, an infectious disease caused by the Shigella bacteria, typically results in diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps. It spreads mainly through contaminated food and water or contact with an infected person.
