Registration of tea garden farmers in Assam now included on agriculture portal

Guwahati. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma has said that inclusion of tea garden land on the agriculture registration portal will prove to be an important step for small tea growers in the state. This initiative will benefit lakhs of small tea farmers and ensure their identity.
Inaugurating this new facility, the Chief Minister himself said that registering the land of tea growers in the official agriculture portal will not only clarify the rights of the farmers, but will also make it easier for them to avail the benefits of government schemes. This step is being considered as an important initiative towards making the tea sector of Assam more respectable and efficient.
Tea is the backbone of the economy of Assam and lakhs of families here are associated with tea production. The Chief Minister said, “Through this service, small farmers will now find it easier to view and correct their registration online. This is a major change to ensure their economic empowerment.”
The purpose of linking land registration on the agriculture registration portal is to provide farmers with government schemes, subsidies, loans and technical assistance. This will protect farmers from fraud and protect their rights. This step of the state government will prove to be an example to bring transparency in the interest of farmers.
Experts believe that organizing the data base of tea farmers in digital form will make Assam’s tea industry competitive in the global markets. Additionally, this initiative will also strengthen other sectors of education, health and social welfare, as beneficiaries will be more clearly identified.
Small tea farmers who will benefit from this scheme are also welcoming the decision. They expect that this facility will increase their income and improve their standard of living. The Government of Assam has also started extensive training meetings and awareness campaigns for the smooth running of this portal.
The State Government has assured that in future also new amendments and support programs will be brought for the tea farmers, so that the tea sector of Assam can maintain its special identity at the global level and the prosperity of the farmers remains.
